Cross-Filtering

Select a chart segment to filter every other dashboard chart by the same value.

Cross-filtering uses a selected pie slice, bar, or leaderboard row to filter other charts on the same dashboard. Stat cards show the result but cannot start a cross-filter.

The selected chart keeps its complete data. Every other chart shows only records that match the selected value.

How it works

  1. Open a dashboard.
  2. Select a chart segment, such as the In Progress slice in a status pie chart.
  3. Review the other charts. Blue filters them to records that match the segment and highlights your selection.
  4. To clear the filter, select the highlighted segment again or remove its filter chip.

Press Escape to clear all cross-filters.

Select Multiple Segments

Hold Ctrl or Cmd while you select an additional segment. You can select up to five segments.

  • Selections from the same field use OR logic. For example, select the Marketing and Sales tags to include records with either tag.
  • Selections from different fields apply together. For example, select In Progress and the Marketing tag to include records that match both filters.

A normal selection without Ctrl or Cmd replaces the current cross-filter.

Uses

  • Explain a value: Select an overdue-record bar to compare those records by owner, list, and tag.
  • Compare segments: Select different segments in one chart and review the changes in other charts.
  • Investigate a metric: Select a team or category to review its related data in other charts.

Behavior

  • Cross-filters are personal. Your selections do not change another user’s dashboard.
  • Cross-filters are transient. Blue clears them when you leave or refresh the dashboard.
  • Blue combines cross-filters with your dashboard filters.
