Moving Records

Move a record to another list, database, or workspace, or change its position in a column.

Moving a record changes the process step that it is in. In a database, a process step is an option of a select field, such as the List field. Moving a record does not create a copy. For more information, see Lists.

View Only and Comment Only roles cannot move records.

Move a record to another list

Use one of these methods:

  • Board: Drag the card to another column.
  • Right-click menu: Right-click the card, select Move to option, and select the destination option. This action is available when the board is grouped by a select field.
  • Record: Open the record and change the value of the select field.
  • Table: Change the value in the field’s cell.

Move a record to another database or workspace

  1. Open the record and select … > Move.
  2. Select the Workspace. Blue selects the current workspace.
  3. Select the Database. Blue selects the record’s current database, or the only database of the workspace.
  4. Optional: select Also set a value, then select a single-select or multi-select Field and a Value. A single-select value replaces the current value. A multi-select value is added to the current values.
  5. Select Move.

Blue selects the field first when the destination has the field that the board is grouped by, a field with the same name, or only one select field.

If the destination database does not have a field that the record has a value in, Blue does not lose the value:

  • The title, description, due date, assignees, and tags go into the destination’s fields of the same kind.
  • Other values go into a destination field with the same name and type. If there is no such field, Blue adds the field to the destination. Blue also adds select options that the destination field does not have.
  • Lists are not copied. Set the destination value in step 4.

The values also stay in the source fields. If you move the record back, they show again.

Move a record within a column

  • Drag the card to a new position in the column.
  • Right-click the card and select Move to top.
  • Right-click the card and select Pin to top to keep it above the other cards.

Limits

You cannot move a record into or out of a locked list. If the destination has a WIP limit that blocks new records, Blue does not move the record when the column is full.

To create a separate record instead, copy the record.
