Reference
Link a record to one or more records in another workspace and use the relationship in Lookup fields.
The Reference field links a record to one or more records in another workspace. Its searchable picker shows records from the workspace that a Project Administrator selected during configuration.
Lookup fields can use this relationship to display values from the linked records.
Configure A Reference Field
A Project Administrator configures the relationship:
- Add a Reference field.
- Select the workspace that contains the records you want to link.
- To link more than one record, select Allow multiple selections.
- To let people create a new record from the picker, select Allow users to create records.
- Under Filter linkable records, add conditions if users must select from a smaller set.
If Allow multiple selections is not selected, each record can link to one record. An optional filter limits the records that appear in the picker.

After configuration, open the Reference field and search for a record. Select a result to create the link.

Create a record from the picker
When Allow users to create records is on, the picker adds a create row below the list of results. Use it when the record you want to link does not exist yet.
- Open the Reference field in a record or in a Database view cell.
- Type the title of the new record in the search box.
- Select the create row. Blue creates the record in the target workspace and links it in one step.
If the field’s filter points at exactly one list, Blue puts the new record in that list. Otherwise the create row shows a list picker.
The option is off by default. It is an extra affordance, not extra permission: the create row appears only for people who could already create a record in the target workspace, and the target workspace’s own permissions and record limits still apply.
Track Incoming References
Add a Referenced By field to show records that point to the current record. Blue updates this read-only field when matching Reference values change.
Select a listed record to open it in a side panel.
